This made me cry. So many parallels to feeling like I wasn't a "good enough" writer... And here you are, an incredible story teller and we all get the honor of seeing and reading your work .. and now we get more. I am just glad that this is happening and so so very excited. I will be hitting up our local indie bookstore to pre-order for sure!!!

So outrageously excited for this and I’m glad you get to honor your teenage self and their dreams in this way - huzzah to them and you

I’m so glad you went back to it. Reminds me of my wife’s journey to publication, she dropped writing for a decade because people she shouldn’t have listened to discouraged her.

She started writing again just before covid and her book came out in January this year.

I’m going to share this with her, Nimona is a really important story to her.

I'm sitting in a zoom call for work, so I can't physically run around screaming, but know that my brain is internally running around screaming. I feel like one of those dogs that is so so so happy that their entire back end is Doin' a Wag.

I love all of this, but I especially love that you couldn't not draw a tiny but very accurate image of the front of Nimona.

Oh, I remember that comic from 2020 well, and how angry it made me. I’ve been so lucky to have majored in creative writing and found professors that always encouraged me to go with my own gut and unique story ideas - hearing about your experience horrified me. To think that one bad teacher nearly turned you off from creating and robbed us all of the amazing stories you had to tell? I’m so glad that you found your way through comics instead, and you learned to trust your own creative instincts in spite of voices telling you to do otherwise. I’m so excited for Scarlet Morning and can’t wait to get a whole book filled with your wonderful prose alongside your art!💗

This is so exciting and I am so proud of you for making this book happen! I also remember being mad about a certain homeschooled 15 year old whose parents owned a publishing company writing a book that I thought was crap, haha. I also started writing a story. I didn't get very far but it was such a fun time writing it.

All of your comics feel tender and relatable but this one especially hit home for me. I *also* wrote all the time and thought of my best plot points in church (sorry God indeed) 😂 I also lost my love of telling stories after some bad client experiences. I’m back in the book making saddle though and can’t wait to read Scarlet Morning when it comes out

thats so fantastic! I grew up writing stories non-stop, but studying and working in science instead killed my creative writing (no first person adventures in scientific papers!). I have always felt a sense of loss for my childhood of endlessly weaving stories.

Also, your stories are FANTASTIC and are the books I wish I had had as a kid. A woman pirate captain YES PLEASE! I bought Nimona for my kids (and myself) and we have followed your career ever since (they frequently put the Nimona movie on with friends, its one of their favourites!) My kids - both boys - are big fans, so whoever says boys won't be interested in female leads are talking garbage!

Thanks for not giving up, and for giving us the stories that we needed as children, and that our children now get to grow up with, showing them that there are so many more choices, stories, emotions and possibilities out there than the mainstream press would have them believe. Can´t wait for the new book! :)

Hello ND,

My name is Amanda Comet. I am active with Sweden's Leftist party that is working to provide trans healthcare according to self ID, as well as to fight for equal rights and protections from conversion therapy.

Our pride events are in July to late August and I would like to arrange a closed viewing of Nimona to our volunteers and staff before we march. As the film that is based on "Nimona" encapsulates everything I and my party hold Pride to be;

A joyful fight for us all to live and exist freely.

Now, formally according to our laws this would need permission from the rights holder to hold a closed viewing. Which is why I am writing to you.

I understand if this is not possible to arrange, but I'd like to atleast open up a dialogue if possible. Because, "you never know".

Please reply if this is at all of interest or possible, and my colleagues will help me take it from there.

P.S

As someone who works in emergency psychiatric care Nimona has been immensely useful for my patients to see to understand minority and queer stress. Especially for my trans patients. Also, my cis-colleagues have also really enjoyed it.

Thank you for writing it, and sharing your comics. They bring joy to my life.

//

All the best regardless if the above is possible or not.

With Kind Regards

Amanda Comet
