Might be your brain is having spells of REM-only sleep rather than REM and NREM

I had a similar dream a while ago, but in it I wasn't allowed to wake up and a lot of people would appear in "my house" telling me everything was normal and I was totally not asleep and everytime I could wake from it, I was again in that "not my house but looking very much like my house". My therapist told me it was problably my brain forcing me to stay asleep so I could rest.

You’ve captured psychosis perfectly. Imagine living this way and we will have empathy for the ones who never quite wake up. Thank you. Great drawings. 👻🎃

I've had similar dreams happen because of my depression meds, it is very unsettling to say the least. It's like a homebrew blend of features of sleeping and waking, and your body and senses aren't working properly. Not sure if that's it but I did relate to this post so thanks

Are you into lucid dreaming? If you can train yourself to do that, the waking you might be able to actively engage with the dream while asleep. I usually practice this by touching door knobs in my house when Im awake asking “is this a dream?” If you practice this often enough, you will one day do it in your dreams, cueing you where you are and allowing you to confront it in real time.

Wow! Haunting beautiful art about it! Hope it quits happening to you though!

Some interesting comments here. I have a suggestion as this has happened 3 times now. If it happens again, make a note of what you ate and drank the day before, what happened the day before, anything that someone else did or said that wasn’t right, anything that bothered you. Maybe a pattern will appear.

Ooooh the eldritch horror dreams, they suck but at least it's not just me. Mine center around numbers or objects multiplying out of control when I have some sort of responsibility/need/expectation related to keeping up with them. It sounds grounded and tame described that way but the experience is fractal hellscape. At least they're rare.

I always wake up with a deep wave of overwhelming nausea and the rhythm of the nightmare still pounding in my head. The only way to clear it is to crowd it out with mundane stuff, like listing every color of artist's paint I can remember I own. Soooo there's that tip if anyone needs it?
