I swear I'm asking this out of genuine confusion and not to be annoying: how is queso blanco not cheese when its main ingredient is cheese? is it a cultural thing I'm not getting bc I'm not American? If anyone could help me I'm. Just a befuddled cheese lover, seeking answers. Thanks. Loved the comics.
“American cheese” is the common name for something that is not a cheese. It’s a Pasteurized Dairy Product. The package can’t legally call it a cheese because it isn’t one. It’s made from the fat skimmed off of milk to make fat-free milk (which I’m told is American too), and one of the chemicals used to make it, sodium citrate, causes it to melt much more smoothly than real cheese. It’s great for dips and burgers, less great on its own.
